| Assistance to Lao PDR |
|
- The External Affairs Minister, Shri Yashwant Sinha handed over a gift of parachutes and training material, including computers, printers, photocopiers and talking dictionaries in Nov 2002, during the Indian PM's visit to Vientiane. He also handed over symbolically a mobile pump from Kirloskars.
- A four member Indian Army Training Team is on deputation to the Lao Armed Forces, Government of the Lao PDR. The team teaches English and computers at the Kaysone Phomvihane National Military Academy, Chinaimo (Vientiane). The Lao PDR, as host government, provides administrative facilities.
- To support the efforts of the Government of the Lao PDR in its flood recovery action, the Government of India sent a consignment of 2000 kgs of essential drugs in 2002. These were handed over to H.E. Mr. Somphanh Phengkhamy, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare and Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, on the 27th August 2002.
- India extends 85 scholarships and training schemes under the Indian Technical & Economic Cooperation (ITEC) for various disciplines & training programmes.
- 25 TATA Deluxe Indian Jeeps were gifted to the Lao National Army on 21st January 2003 in a brief ceremony to the Chief of Cabinet of the Ministry of National Defence, H.E. Gen. Savay Sayasena. Another 10 Tata trucks were delivered to Ministry of National Defence in April 2003.
- Pakse-Ban Hat 115 kv transmission line project funded under the GOI US$ 10 million soft credit.
- US $ 2 million Grant for supply of foundry machinery.
- Gift of computers, photocopiers, office accessories and who vehicles to the ministry of foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR for the 10th ASEAN Summit and 3rd ASEAN-India Summit.
- IT Centre established at the Science Technology Environment Agency with full office equipment.
- Lao - India Entrepreneurship Development Centre set up under the India-ASEAN fund to train Lao entrepreneurs for setting up SMEs. (So far the Centre has held 12 programmes after its inception since 27 November, 2004 and has scheduled 21 more programes for the coming years).
- Gift of computers, office equipment, photocopiers to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the AMM, PMC and 12th ARF.
- Ambassador handed over the conferencing system/equipment to the Kaysone Phomvihane National Academy of Defence at a ceremony on December 13, 2005 on the occasion of the 85th birth anniversary celebrations of former President Kaysone Phomvihane.
